The true art of growing oranges
By Kees van den Heuvel, Area Manager Egypt
The orange is a product that is massively consumed. Both out of hand and in the form of juice, the orange is extremely popular worldwide. This mass product is grown in different production areas and growing conditions. At Chainn we source a large part of the oranges from the Nile Delta in Egypt. This is where the company Natures Delight is located. This company is part of the largest carpet producer in the world: Oriental Weavers Group. A remarkable combination, you might be thinking... But Oriental Weavers Group saw a gap in the market and ambitiously entered the fruit production market. A good move, because today Natures Delight with a production capacity of 140,000 tonnes and a 20,000m2 warehouse, the company is on its way to becoming the largest fruit producer in Egypt.
The warehouse is equipped with the most modern production line imaginable. At Natures Delight, quality is of great importance and thus much attention is paid to creating optimal working conditions. Because of this, the employees enjoy their work, and the oranges are processed with the greatest care and a big smile. With that extra step, the quality of their oranges really stands out.
South African style
The fact that Natures Delight produces such high-quality oranges is also due to the way they are grown. The way the fruit trees are treated has a major influence on the quality of the fruit. Finding the best way to do this is a true specialism. You could even call it an art, if you ask me. Fortunately, at Natures Delight they know exactly how to grow the best orange; by using South African techniques. Marius Bouwman is responsible for the cultivation at Natures Delight and has brought the best techniques from South Africa and implemented them in the production company in Egypt. The result: the best, tastiest, and most beautiful oranges in the world. A true artist, that Marius!
